About Bearded Iris 'Lunar Whitewash'

‘Lunar Whitewash’ is a tall-bearded iris introduced by Sterling Innerst in 2003. Its white flowers have cream-colored style arms and beards, and the 36-inch stalks bloom in late midseason. ## In the garden Use this German iris in a sunny perennial border or cutting garden, where its upright flower stalks rise above clumping foliage. Bearded irises prefer full sun and rich, well-drained soil, though they tolerate some shade. Set rhizomes at soil level or cover them lightly; leave them unmulched. Once established, they tolerate dry conditions, while heavy, wet soil can lead to rot. ## Bloom and rebloom The American Iris Society classifies ‘Lunar Whitewash’ as a late-midseason tall-bearded iris. Its profile records white flowers with cream style arms and beards, at a height of 36 inches (91 cm). The 2003 introduction reports October–November rebloom in Pennsylvania. That is a regional observation, not a promise of repeat flowering or a hardiness range. Read the [American Iris Society cultivar profile](https://wiki.irises.org/TbKthruO/TbLunarWhitewash) alongside the [NC State Extension bearded iris guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) for selection details and broader group culture. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower stalks. Divide crowded clumps in mid- to late summer after flowering, clear old foliage at season’s end, and promptly remove roots or leaves affected by iris borer.
