‘Rock Star’ is a tall-bearded iris introduced by Monty Byers in 1990, with apricot-orange standards heavily mottled red-violet and apricot falls edged in red-violet. Its [American Iris Society profile](https://wiki.irises.org/TbPthruT/TbRockStar) describes early-midseason bloom, heavy ruffling, red-orange beards with light-orange horns, and a slight sweet fragrance.
## Placement
Choose full sun and well-drained garden soil; the cultivar profile says it may still bloom in half-day shade and that established plants tolerate dry conditions but not swampy beds. A raised bed or slope can help improve drainage. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) provides broader bearded-iris guidance for soil and rhizome planting.
## Maintenance
Keep new rhizomes moist while their roots establish, then water established plants as the soil dries without letting beds become swampy. Divide crowded clumps after flowering, generally every three to five years, and remove spent bloom stalks as outlined in the [American Iris Society care guide](https://www.irises.org/gardeners/care-classification/care/). Rebloom has been reported in several locations, though reports do not guarantee repeat flowering in every garden.
