About Bearded Iris 'Rosalie Figge'

Rosalie Figge is a tall bearded iris with violet flowers and a pronounced sweet fragrance. Its dark-violet falls carry a white spray around the beard, while white beards tipped violet and a yellow throat complete the flower. ## Bloom and form The American Iris Society's current registration records this selection at 39 inches (99 cm), while its original introduction lists 38 inches. These competing reports correspond to about 3.17–3.25 feet; no single point is established by both accounts. The registration describes midseason bloom and rebloom, with repeat flowering varying by location. ## Site and soil Choose full sun for the best flowering, though bearded irises tolerate some shade. Grow Rosalie Figge in rich, well-drained soil. Set the rhizomes at soil level or cover them only lightly, and avoid mulch over them. These irises prefer drier soil; established plants tolerate dry conditions, while overwatering can contribute to rot. ## Garden use Use this violet-and-white iris in a sunny perennial border, a cutting garden, or a repeated naturalized planting. Its flower pattern gives a close-up focal point near a walkway or patio. Allow room for its flowering stems and keep neighboring plants from crowding the rhizomes. ## Maintenance Remove faded blooms and divide crowded clumps in mid- to late summer after flowering. Clear old foliage at season's end and watch for iris borer and rot.
