About Bearded Iris 'Savannah Sunset'

‘Savannah Sunset’ is a tall-bearded iris introduced by Schreiner in 2000, with cadmium-orange self-colored flowers and tangerine beards. The [American Iris Society cultivar profile](https://wiki.irises.org/TbPthruT/TbSavannahSunset) records a 38-inch (97 cm) height and early-to-late bloom; its rebloom checklist notes reports from Oregon. ## Landscape and season Use it in a sunny perennial border or cutting garden. [North Carolina State Extension’s bearded-iris guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) recommends full sun for best performance and notes that some shade is tolerated. ## Growing conditions Plant rhizomes at soil level or just lightly covered in rich, well-drained soil; avoid mulch and soggy conditions. Bearded iris prefers drier soil, and established plants tolerate dry conditions; poor drainage or overwatering can lead to root rot. ## Maintenance Fertilize in early spring and divide after flowering in mid- to late summer. Remove faded blooms and clear old foliage at season’s end to help manage iris borer; divide crowded clumps as needed.
