About Bearded Iris 'Superstition'

Superstition is a tall-bearded iris registered by Schreiner in 1977 and listed at 36 inches (91 cm). The AIS describes an ebony-hued flower with a blue-black beard and a midseason bloom. [American Iris Society record](https://wiki.irises.org/TbPthruT/TbSuperstition) ## Flowering and form The cultivar record classifies Superstition as a tall bearded iris and describes the flower as an ebony-hued self. Its beard is blue-black, providing a dark accent against the flower's deep tone. ## Growing conditions Schreiner’s bearded-iris guidance recommends at least six hours of sun in most climates, with some shade in extremely hot areas. Use well-drained garden soil and plant rhizomes with their tops exposed and roots spread downward. Cut bloom stalks near the base when all buds have finished, leave healthy foliage through summer, and remove diseased or brown leaves. Divide clumps before they become crowded, generally every three to five years; Schreiner’s guide gives July through September as a typical window. Water newly planted rhizomes well and, if dry conditions continue, every seven to ten days until autumn rains begin.
