About Blue Star Creeper

Blue star creeper is a low, evergreen perennial ground cover with tiny green leaves and pale blue, five-petaled flowers. North Carolina Extension lists it at 2–3 inches tall and 14–24 inches wide, with blooms from spring into summer. ## Form and placement Its creeping stems root as they spread, forming a dense mat that can soften a path edge or fill a rock garden. The [North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/isotoma-fluviatilis/common-name/blue-star-creeper/) describes the species as a ground cover for partial shade and notes its blue and white star-shaped flowers. It is native to eastern and southeastern Australia and tolerates light foot traffic. ## Growing conditions Grow in partial shade in moist, organic-rich soil; the species also grows in sand, loam, and shallow rocky soils and tolerates occasionally wet conditions. North Carolina Extension lists hardiness zones 6a–8b. Allow room for the runners, or install a deep edging barrier where you want to limit spread. ## Maintenance This low-maintenance perennial needs little routine care. Keep new plantings watered while they establish and trim the mat at its edges if it moves beyond its allotted space.
