Create design onlineAbout Dwarf Bonsai Blue Jacaranda Tree
Bonsai Blue™ is the named selection *Jacaranda mimosifolia* ‘Sakai01’, a dwarf, deciduous jacaranda with fernlike green leaves and purple-blue flowers. It blooms at a younger age than many jacarandas and is intended for small gardens, patios, and containers.
## Size and identity
Published mature-size descriptions differ substantially: Plantipp lists about 75 cm tall and wide, while Star Roses gives 6–8 feet high by 5 feet wide; the Royal Horticultural Society lists 1.5–2.5 m high and 1–1.5 m wide. For a planting plan, allow up to about 8 feet of height and 5 feet of spread, consistent with the Star Roses and RHS upper estimates. U.S. Plant Patent 26,574 for ‘Sakai01’ was published April 5, 2016. Plantipp identifies breeder Kiyoshi Sakai.
## Site and care
Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Star Roses lists USDA zones 9–11 and recommends regular watering until established. This cultivar can be grown as a specimen in a small landscape or in a patio container; container culture requires closer attention to moisture and winter protection. RHS describes flowers in late spring to early summer and deciduous foliage, while Plantipp also describes a dwarf, moderately hardy tree.

## Maintenance
Water regularly during establishment and in containers. Prune lightly in spring to maintain a balanced shape; avoid removing more than needed for structure.
