About Jazz Hands® Bold Chinese fringe-flower

Jazz Hands® Bold is an evergreen Chinese fringe-flower shrub with oversized, round purple leaves that emerge with a pink flush and hold rich color through the growing season. Its vivid pink, fringe-like flowers arrive in spring, with the cultivar profile also listing summer interest; allow room for a mature plant about 5–6 ft tall and wide. The large foliage and flower display makes it a strong focal plant in a mixed border or a useful informal hedge. [Proven Winners ColorChoice](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/jazz-hands-bold-chinese-fringe-flower/) identifies the cultivar as *Loropetalum chinense* ‘Kurenai Daiou’ and credits breeder Yuji Suzuki; its listed plant patent is USPP27748, granted March 7, 2017. [Spring Meadow Nursery](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/jazz-hands-bold-53460) also identifies the selection and breeder. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun to part sun in USDA zones 7b–9. Moist, fertile, well-drained acidic soil supports the best foliage and bloom; provide regular water, especially during dry weather. The plant is evergreen and deer resistant, and the purple foliage contributes color beyond its flowering period. ## Garden use Use it as a specimen, in a mixed border, or as a hedge where its eventual spread can be accommodated. It can also serve as a thriller in a large container with adequate root space and consistent moisture. ## Maintenance Routine pruning is usually unnecessary. If shaping is needed, prune just after the spring flowers; later pruning can reduce the next display. Feed in spring, with a second summer feeding recommended by the breeder’s plant profile.
