About Easter Black Walnut

Juglans nigra is a massive deciduous tree reaching up to 100 feet with a broad, rounded crown and deeply furrowed, dark bark. Its long, pinnately compound leaves feature numerous leaflets that turn a vibrant yellow in autumn. Highly valued for its premium dark timber and edible nuts, it thrives in deep, moist, well-drained soils. Note its allelopathic nature; it releases juglone, which can inhibit the growth of nearby sensitive plants like tomatoes, peppers, and azaleas.
