Create design onlineAbout Starhead ColorGrass® Juncus
ColorGrass® Juncus Starhead is a compact, upright selection of swordleaf rush (Juncus ensifolius), valued for broad green foliage and dark green, star-shaped inflorescences. [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/073906635021691/colorgrass-juncus-starhead/) gives a mature size of 8–10 inches tall and wide, a hardiness range of 4a–10b, and partial sun to sun exposure.
## Form and placement
Use Starhead in small containers or as a neat foliage accent at the edge of a waterwise or moisture-retentive planting. Keep its compact selection size in mind when grouping it with larger rushes. PanAmerican Seed lists it for 4-inch and 6-inch containers as well as gallon production.
## Growing conditions
Provide sun or partial shade and keep the root zone moist. The [RHS profile for Juncus ensifolius](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/53283/juncus-ensifolius/details) describes the species as suited to permanently moist soil and reports summer flowerheads; its wider species dimensions differ from this compact named selection, so use the PanAmerican Seed measurements for Starhead.
## Maintenance
Water consistently and do not allow container mix to dry completely. Remove damaged foliage and spent stems as needed to keep the compact clump tidy.
