Angelica Blue is a low, spreading Chinese juniper valued for its dense blue-green to silvery-blue evergreen foliage. This named cultivar forms a broad shrub suited to groundcover, border, and foundation plantings, with size estimates that vary between references.
## Character and uses
The [North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/juniperus-chinensis-angelica-blue/) describes an arching, horizontal shrub, about 5–6 feet tall and 6–10 feet wide, with dense branches and glaucous foliage. It lists full sun to partial shade, adaptable well-drained soils, and use in borders, foundations, slopes, rock gardens, and coastal gardens. The [American Conifer Society cultivar record](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/juniperus-chinensis-angelica-blue) reports intermediate growth and a 5–10 foot size after ten years; its origin field is unknown, so a breeder is not assigned.
## Garden performance
This cultivar is evergreen and dioecious: male plants produce pollen cones, while pollinated female plants may form blue, berry-like cones that attract birds. North Carolina Extension reports drought tolerance after establishment and resistance to deer and rabbits. Avoid poorly drained sites.
## Maintenance
Routine pruning is generally unnecessary. Remove damaged or misplaced branches as needed, and allow space for the shrub's mature spread. Water regularly while establishing; once established, irrigate according to soil and weather, avoiding prolonged saturation.
