Create design onlineAbout Armstrong Chinese Juniper
Armstrong juniper is a compact evergreen with a low, spreading outline, small light-green foliage, and slightly arching branches. It suits sunny borders and small-space plantings where a rounded conifer can add year-round structure ([Oregon State University profile](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/juniperus-chinensis)).
## Form and Use
The American Conifer Society lists ‘Armstrongii’ as an established selection, also known as ‘Pfitzeriana Nana’, and traces its availability to 1932. It describes a spreading shape with an attractive mound at the center and fine, pale green foliage. Oregon State University gives about 4 feet in height and a similar spread, while the Conifer Society notes that plants may continue enlarging over time. Some taxonomic references place it with hybrid Pfitzer junipers; this profile retains the catalog’s exact cultivar name.
## Growing Conditions
Chinese junipers generally grow in sun or partial shade and perform best in moist, well-drained soil; established plants tolerate drier conditions. Use this compact form as a foreground accent, low informal border, or container specimen, allowing room for its mature width.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while establishing, then reduce frequency as roots develop. Avoid persistently wet soil. Junipers need little pruning; remove damaged branches and lightly shape only when needed, without cutting back into bare old wood.
