Create design onlineAbout Hollywood Juniper Tree
Kaizuka, often called Hollywood juniper, is an evergreen Chinese juniper with sculptural, twisted branches and dense green foliage. The upright, irregular form works well as a specimen or trained topiary in a sunny landscape ([Monrovia Hollywood Juniper profile](https://www.monrovia.com/hollywood-juniper.html)).
## Form and Identity
The exact catalog selection is ‘Kaizuka’. Oregon State University and the RHS identify ‘Kaizuka’ as a synonym of ‘Torulosa’, the name used on Monrovia’s Hollywood Juniper page, so the page’s care and cultivar description apply without changing the catalog identity. Monrovia lists a natural size of about 15 feet tall by 10 feet wide, while Oregon State describes mature plants reaching 20–30 feet tall. Use the larger estimate when planning long-term space.
## Growing Conditions
Provide full sun and well-drained soil, and avoid sites that stay wet. Monrovia lists USDA zones 5–9 and recommends regular deep watering during the first growing season, then less frequent watering once established. Evergreen foliage gives year-round structure; the twisted branching is most visible when the plant has room to develop.
## Maintenance
Allow the plant to keep its natural irregular outline or prune selectively to maintain a chosen shape. It can be clipped as a topiary, but avoid removing foliage back to bare wood. Water during prolonged dry spells, especially while young.
