About Prince of Wales Creeping Juniper

Juniperus horizontalis 'Prince of Wales' is a very low, dense, spreading evergreen with bright light-green foliage carrying bluish overtones. It forms a broad groundcover rather than an upright shrub and is best placed where its horizontal spread has room to develop. ## Form and landscape use The [American Conifer Society cultivar profile](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/juniperus-horizontalis-prince-of-wales) describes a spreading plant with a 5–10-foot spread after ten years and intermediate growth of about 6–12 inches per year. Use it to cover open ground, edge a sunny bed, or soften a slope; keep it away from narrow paths unless regular boundary trimming is planned. Its foliage color and low profile provide a contrasting evergreen layer beneath taller shrubs. ## Growing conditions The species is generally adapted to sunny, well-drained sites. The current catalog record also allows partial shade and lists dry soil; local drainage and light influence density and color. Avoid persistently wet planting sites, and water new plants during establishment. ## Maintenance Once established, allow the plant to keep its naturally prostrate form. Trim only to contain spread or remove damaged growth, and avoid cutting deeply into old, bare stems.
