About Arcadia Juniper

Arcadia juniper is a compact, evergreen groundcover shrub with bright green, layered branches. It spreads broadly while staying low, making it useful for slopes, rock gardens, borders, and large-scale groundcover where a durable green structure is wanted year-round. ## Form and placement Cultivar profiles describe mature plants about 1–2 feet tall and roughly 5–8 feet wide. Oregon State University notes its compact layered habit and bright green, mostly scale-like foliage; the University of Connecticut lists it at 18 inches tall and 5 feet wide. Allow room for the branches to spread, and use it where its broad outline can soften a slope or edge. It is hardy to USDA Zone 3; Monrovia lists Zones 3–7. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun for dense growth. Savin juniper tolerates dry, well-drained soils, while young plantings benefit from regular watering as roots establish. Once established, water when the soil begins to dry rather than keeping it constantly wet. The evergreen foliage is the main ornamental feature; inconspicuous cones are typical of junipers. Cultivar measurements vary among regional references, so treat mature dimensions as a planning range. ## Maintenance Water regularly during the first growing season, then reduce irrigation as the shrub establishes. Keep weeds down until the groundcover fills in, and prune selectively if it extends beyond its space. Avoid cutting back into old bare wood. Check periodically for juniper blight, especially where foliage remains crowded or wet.
