Broadmoor is a dense, low, mounding male selection of Savin juniper, Juniperus sabina. Its blue-green evergreen foliage and broad spread suit groundcover planting, slopes, rock gardens, and foundation edges. The [Morton Arboretum cultivar profile](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/savin-juniper/) notes its resistance to juniper blight.
## Form and site
The Morton Arboretum lists a height up to 3 feet and a spread up to 10 feet. [Oregon State University](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/juniperus-sabina) describes the selection as 2–3 feet tall and 10 feet wide, with a dense, mounding habit and gray-green foliage. The existing metric height remains within that range; the published dimensions are site and source estimates. Savin juniper grows best in open sun and adapts to well-drained, dry soils. Once established, plants tolerate drought and wind. Because Broadmoor is male, it does not produce the berry-like cones found on female plants.
## Maintenance
Allow room for the mature lateral spread and water regularly while a new planting establishes. After establishment, supplemental watering can be reduced according to weather and soil drainage. Keep the crown open to airflow and remove damaged branches as needed. The species is generally low maintenance; prune selectively if the plant outgrows its space rather than shearing deeply into older wood.
