Calgary Carpet Juniper

Juniperus sabina 'Monna', sold as Calgary Carpet® Juniper, is a very low, spreading evergreen groundcover with soft green foliage. Its compact height and broad spread suit slopes, borders, rock gardens, and the edges of retaining walls. ## Form and landscape use The exact [Monrovia Calgary Carpet profile](https://www.monrovia.com/calgary-carpet-juniper.html) gives a mature height of 9 inches and a spread of up to 10 feet. It describes an evergreen with a moderate growth rate and a spreading habit, useful for erosion control or covering open ground. The cultivar name 'Monna' distinguishes this selection from other low junipers. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Monrovia notes that the established plant tolerates heat, cold, and drought; water new plantings during establishment, then irrigate sparingly according to local conditions. The current catalog range is USDA zones 3–7. ## Maintenance Allow room for the plant’s horizontal growth and trim only to contain its boundary or remove damaged stems. Avoid routine shearing that would sacrifice its naturally low, spreading form.
