Create design onlineAbout Rocky Mountain Upright Juniper 'Wichita Blue'
Wichita Blue is an evergreen, male clone of Rocky Mountain juniper (Juniperus scopulorum). It develops a broad pyramidal outline with vivid blue foliage and remains fruitless ([Oregon State University](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/juniperus-scopulorum-wichita-blue)).
## Landscape Use
Oregon State University reports a mature size of about 18 feet high by 8 feet wide, a loose pyramidal habit, and bright silver-blue foliage. The cultivar's male clone does not produce fruit. Its blue color and strong upright shape make it a useful specimen or screen plant where it has space to mature. Oregon State also lists Wichita Blue Juniper and Wichita Blue Rocky Mountain Juniper as common names.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun and provide freely draining soil. Oregon State records USDA zone 3 hardiness and moderate growth, and notes that established plants need little additional water. Avoid persistently wet roots.
## Maintenance
Water while establishing, then reduce supplemental irrigation once rooted, unless prolonged dry weather requires it. Allow the natural pyramidal outline to develop and remove only damaged or obstructive branches.
