About Taylor Juniper Tree

‘Taylor’ is a narrow, columnar eastern redcedar with dark blue-green foliage, offering a formal vertical accent or slim screen. It was found near Taylor, Nebraska, and introduced by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum in 1987. ## Form and placement Published mature dimensions vary: Clemson Extension gives about 20–25 feet tall and 4 feet wide, while other regional profiles report roughly 15–20 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide. Its upright form is useful beside entries, in rows, or as a specimen where a narrow evergreen is desired; allow for a mature tree rather than treating it as a small shrub. NC State Extension notes it is thought to be male and may not produce cones. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. As a selection of eastern redcedar, it tolerates a range of soils and dry conditions once established; avoid poorly drained sites. The [NC State profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/juniperus-virginiana-taylor/) and [Clemson Extension](https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/juniper/) describe its columnar form and regional performance. Cedar-apple rust can occur, though the cultivar is generally considered problem-free. ## Maintenance Water regularly during establishment and during prolonged drought. Remove dead or damaged branches and correct structural issues while young. Avoid heavy shearing so the natural columnar outline remains intact.
