About Kentiopsis magnifica

Kentiopsis magnifica is a tall, solitary palm native to northeastern New Caledonia. Its broad, flat leaflets and vivid emerging foliage give it a strong architectural presence where a large tropical palm can be grown. ## Identity and appearance Kew currently accepts this species as *Chambeyronia magnifica* and lists *Kentiopsis magnifica* as a homotypic synonym. The 1998 taxonomic revision describes an emergent palm with spreading pinnate leaves; its leaflets are arranged in one plane, and expanding juvenile leaves can be bright red to chocolate brown before maturing green. These features distinguish the species from other New Caledonian palms with different leaf arrangements. ## Garden setting Allow substantial overhead and lateral room for the mature crown. This is best treated as a long-term specimen for a tropical or subtropical landscape with conditions suited to a rainforest palm; it is not a small accent for a confined bed. The taxonomic revision records the species from remnant rainforest in northeastern New Caledonia. Local climate and growing conditions will determine whether it can be planted outdoors or needs protected cultivation. ## Maintenance Keep the root area evenly supplied with moisture while ensuring excess water can drain away. Remove only dead or damaged foliage, and avoid cutting healthy green leaves. Consult local palm-growing specialists for climate-specific siting and establishment advice.
