Create design onlineAbout Red Hot Poker Torch Lily 'Jackpot'
Red hot poker ‘Jackpot’ produces bright reddish-orange flower spikes that open to yellow, creating a two-tone effect above a mound of green, grass-like foliage. The spikes rebloom through much of summer and give the planting a strong vertical accent.
## Form and placement
The cultivar grows about 32–36 inches tall and 24–28 inches wide. Use it in a sunny border or cut-flower garden where the flower stalks can rise above surrounding plants. Walters Gardens reports flowering from early through late summer and tested the plant through heavy-snow winters in Michigan Zone 6. Its published range is USDA Zones 5b–9; winter protection may help at the colder edge.
## Growing conditions
Plant ‘Jackpot’ in full sun and well-drained soil. Kniphofia tolerates dry conditions after establishment, but benefits from a good supply of water while flowering. The foliage may remain evergreen in mild regions and become herbaceous in cooler climates. Avoid winter wet around the crown, and allow the soil to drain freely. Walters Gardens lists the cultivar as deer and rabbit resistant and attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

## Maintenance
Trim old leaf tips in spring. In colder gardens, tie foliage over the crown in fall or apply loose winter mulch to reduce water settling around the plant. Remove spent flower stems to keep the border tidy.
