About Kniphofia 'Lemon Popsicle'

‘Lemon Popsicle’ is a compact, clump-forming red hot poker with grassy green leaves and bright yellow flower spikes. The foliage reaches about 19 inches, while flowering stems rise to about 26 inches; repeat blooms can continue from early summer into fall. ## Profile and placement Terra Nova lists a 14-inch spread, full sun, USDA zones 6–9, and the POPSICLE™ Series. Plant the clump where the yellow spikes can rise above lower border plants, or use it as a bright color spot in a mixed bed. The flowers also work well as cut stems. The official [Terra Nova plant profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/kniphofia-lemon-popsicle/) identifies the cultivar with U.S. patent PP24011 and EU grant EU38300. The U.S. patent was granted in 2013; neither code implies any current legal status. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny site with well-drained soil; the grower lists average garden soil and water. Kniphofia tolerates drier conditions after establishment, but flowering can decrease when plants lack moisture during hot weather. Avoid planting where water remains around the crown in winter. ## Maintenance Deadhead fading spikes to encourage repeat flowering, and remove dead foliage as the plant returns to growth. Divide the clump every few years if it becomes crowded. In cold-winter locations, protect the crown from water collecting in the foliage; follow local advice on seasonal cutback.
