Create design onlineAbout Poco™ Citron Red Hot Poker
POCO™ ‘Citron’ is a compact red-hot poker with dense flower spikes that open creamy lime-green, shift to lemon, and finish butter-yellow over upright grassy leaves. Terra Nova lists foliage about 14in tall by 14in wide, flower stems to 20in, bloom from July through October, and USDA zones 6–9. ## Garden Use
The short, upright clump works well in a container or at the front of a sunny border, where the changing yellow tones can be seen close up. The breeder identifies this as a member of the POCO™ series and reports full sun, average garden water, deciduous foliage, and cut-flower use. Plants attract hummingbirds and produce repeated summer-to-fall bloom. The foliage height and flower-stem height are listed separately, so allow about 20in for the flowering display even though the leafy mound is shorter. As with other Kniphofia, free-draining soil helps prevent winter crown damage. [RHS Kniphofia growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/kniphofia/growing-guide).
## Maintenance
Water regularly while establishing and during active growth, then reduce moisture in cool, wet weather. Remove faded flower stems, keep healthy foliage until new leaves emerge, and divide crowded clumps in spring.
