Kodiak Fresh® is a compact, spreading bush honeysuckle selected for its colorful new growth and bright summer foliage. Leaves emerge orange-red, mature to lime green or yellow-green, then develop orange, red, or purple-red tones in autumn; yellow flowers appear in summer. ## Garden Use
Plants typically grow 2–3 feet tall and wide, making this selection useful for low borders, mass plantings, and naturalizing. It grows in sun or shade, although some sun strengthens the foliage color. The summer flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and the shrub is deer resistant. ## Growing Conditions
Kodiak Fresh is adaptable to many garden soils and tolerates dry shade once established. Water regularly while young, then reduce supplemental watering as roots settle in. Its spreading, suckering habit can help fill a broad area.
## Maintenance
Trim in spring if needed to shape the plant and refresh growth. Allow room for the mature clump and remove unwanted suckers if you want to keep its spread within bounds. This cultivar is botanically identified as Diervilla × splendens under the selection name ‘SMNDSS’.
