Vossii Golden Chain Tree

Vossii golden chain tree is a small deciduous tree valued for its long, hanging clusters of bright yellow flowers in spring. Its broad crown, green three-part leaves and showy racemes make it a striking specimen where there is room for its mature spread. ## Form and flowers This selection is Laburnum × watereri ‘Vossii’, also called Voss’s laburnum. The Royal Horticultural Society describes drooping flower racemes reaching 60 cm and a mature height and spread of 4–8 m. Flowering is most conspicuous in spring; timing varies with climate. ## Site and safety Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam and sand, and notes the plant is harmful if eaten. All parts can be toxic, especially seeds; keep pods away from children and pets and wear gloves when handling or pruning. ## Maintenance Allow room for the crown and avoid routine hard pruning; remove dead or crossing branches as needed.
