Thunderstruck™ Coral Boom™ is a deciduous crape myrtle whose coral flowers appear from summer into fall over glossy, near-black foliage. Its bright blooms and dark leaves make it a distinctive specimen for a sunny landscape.
## Form and season
This selection is *Lagerstroemia* × ‘JM5’, listed under U.S. Plant Patent PP31557. Garden Debut gives a mature range of 12–15 feet tall and 8–12 feet wide, consistent with the current catalog labels. The cultivar’s flowering and foliage contrast are most visible in an open site with full sun.
## Growing conditions
Set the plant in full sun and well-drained soil, allowing space for its mature canopy. Water well through establishment, then during prolonged dry spells. Crape myrtles bloom on new growth, so a sunny position and good air movement support healthy growth and flowering.
## Maintenance
In late winter or early spring, remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches while preserving the natural branching pattern. Avoid severe topping, which can damage the form and reduce bloom. Monitor new shoots for aphids and spider mites.
