Create design onlineAbout Beacon Silver Spotted Dead Nettle
Beacon Silver is a low, spreading spotted dead nettle with silver leaves edged in green and pinkish-purple flowers. The foliage forms a bright mat in shade, while upright flower stems rise above it in late spring and summer.
## Growth and display
Allow about 15–20 cm of height and 90–122 cm of spread. The plant is a useful groundcover beneath trees or along shaded borders, but it tolerates only occasional foot traffic. Its stems root where they touch the soil, so it can fill an area quickly; North Carolina Extension describes it as vigorous but easy to control.
## Growing conditions
Plant in partial shade or shade and provide evenly moist, well-drained soil. Established plants can handle some dry spells, but dry soil or excessive sun may scorch the leaves. Hot, humid summers can leave bare patches in dense plantings. ## Maintenance
Trim back sparse or scorched growth to encourage fresh leaves. Keep the soil evenly moist without leaving the roots waterlogged, and edge the planting if its spreading stems move beyond the intended groundcover area.
