About Golden Anniversary Spotted Dead Nettle

Golden Anniversary is the trade name for spotted deadnettle cultivar ‘Dellam’. This low, mat-forming perennial carries green leaves edged in yellow, with a broad silver marking through the center, and purple flowers in summer. ## Growth and placement The Royal Horticultural Society describes it as about 20 cm tall, with a mature spread of roughly 0.5–1 m. Use it as groundcover, beneath shrubs, along shaded borders, or in patio containers. Its spreading stems can root where they touch soil, so allow room for the mat to develop. Foliage may persist through mild winters and die back in colder climates. ## Growing conditions Plant in partial or full shade in moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates a range of soil textures and pH, but avoid waterlogged ground. The [RHS profile for ‘Dellam’](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/139756/lamium-maculatum-dellam/details) lists summer flowers and its golden-edged, silver-striped leaves. [Wisconsin Horticulture](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/spotted-deadnettle-lamium-maculatum/) identifies Golden Anniversary as ‘Dellam’ and describes its pink-lavender flowers and tricolor foliage. ## Maintenance After flowering, trim the mat to encourage fresh foliage and keep edges within the intended planting area. Divide plants in autumn or early spring if you want to establish new patches.
