Purple Chablis is a short, spreading spotted dead nettle with silver-and-green variegated leaves and lavender-purple flowers. It can be grown as a perennial in USDA zones 4–8 and also works as a container spiller.
## Form and flowering
Plants grow about 20–30 cm tall and 36–51 cm wide, with stems that may trail up to 61 cm. The official profile lists flowers from spring into summer and describes the foliage as a key feature. Use it along shaded borders, as edging or groundcover, in mass plantings, or at the edge of a container.
## Growing conditions
Purple Chablis tolerates sun or shade, heat, and periods of dry weather once established. Average soil and watering suit it; the profile lists acidic, neutral, and alkaline soils. Deer resistance is also noted. See the [Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/lamium/purple-chablis-dead-nettle-lamium-maculatum) for cultivar details.
## Maintenance
The plant is self-cleaning, so deadheading is unnecessary. Water during extended dry spells while it establishes, and trim or edge stems when they grow beyond their allotted space.
