Blue Latan Palm (*Latania loddigesii*) is a slow-growing, single-trunked palm with large, blue-gray to silvery leaves. [University of Florida IFAS’s plant profile](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/ST350) describes it as a striking specimen for patios, containers, and landscapes in warm climates, with flower stalks appearing among the leaves in spring.
## Size and climate
The profile's overview estimates 20–35 feet tall with a 15-foot spread, while its tabular description lists 20–30 feet tall and 10–12 feet wide. Plan for the larger figures when siting the palm and allow ample room around the crown. UF/IFAS lists USDA Zones 10A–11 and notes moderate aerosol salt tolerance; [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:667782-1) recognizes *L. loddigesii* as an accepted species.
## Form and placement
The stiff, costapalmate leaves form an open, upright crown and can grow several feet across. Blue Latan is evergreen and slow-growing, making it a long-lived focal palm where winter temperatures are suitable. It also adapts to large containers while young; its eventual size calls for planning ahead.
## Maintenance
Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. UF/IFAS reports high drought tolerance after establishment and moderate tolerance of salt spray. Little pruning is needed beyond removal of dead leaves. Watch for lethal yellowing disease, to which latan palms are susceptible.
