About Little Ragu® Sweet Bay Shrub

Little Ragu® Sweet Bay is a compact, upright evergreen form of culinary bay with aromatic deep-green leaves and red-tinged new stems. Monrovia lists mature dimensions of 6–8 feet tall and wide and USDA hardiness zones 8–11. ## Plant Details This selection grows as a shrub or small tree and can be left in its natural shape or clipped into a hedge or topiary. Its leaves are used as a seasoning fresh or dried, and the plant also works well in containers. The foliage is evergreen, and its flowers are inconspicuous. Monrovia identifies the selection as Laurus nobilis 'MonRik' and lists patent PP 25,915. ## Growing Conditions Grow it in full sun or partial sun in well-drained soil. During the first growing season, water deeply and regularly to help establish roots. After establishment, water less often; the plant tolerates moderate drought, but water when the top three inches of soil are dry. Its compact form suits smaller gardens, courtyards, and patios. ## Maintenance Apply fertilizer as new growth begins in spring. Prune only as needed to shape the plant or maintain a formal hedge or topiary. Harvest leaves as needed for cooking, using them fresh or dried. See [Monrovia’s Little Ragu® Sweet Bay plant profile](https://www.monrovia.com/little-ragu-sweet-bay.html) for the cultivar’s size, growing conditions, and care details.
