Blue Spear English lavender is a compact, mounded seed strain with upright flower stems and dense, conspicuous spikes. PanAmerican Seed lists plants at 11–13 inches tall and 9–11 inches wide, with first-year flowering and a hardiness range of USDA 6a–8b.
## Flowers and foliage
The official Blue Spear page describes larger, taller spikes held close together for a strong display and gives a late-spring to summer bloom season. The Royal Horticultural Society describes this exact seed strain as bearing fragrant blue-purple flowers in late summer, with aromatic grey-green evergreen foliage. Flowering time can shift with climate and growing conditions.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun and fast-draining soil. The RHS profile lists sand, chalk, and loam as suitable soil types; avoid cold, damp sites. Its broader lavender growing guide notes that English lavenders tolerate drought once established and that container plants need more regular summer watering as their limited soil volume dries quickly.
## Maintenance
Remove faded flower stems and trim a little leafy growth after flowering to maintain a compact shape. Avoid cutting into old woody stems, which may not produce new growth. Plant in a container or border with drainage holes and enough sun, and water more often during establishment and hot, dry weather.
