About Lavender 'Ellagance Sky'

‘Ellagance Sky’ is a light violet-blue English lavender selected for abundant first-year flowers and uniform growth. The [Fleuroselect award profile](https://www.fleuroselect.com/trials-and-awards/awarded-varieties/variety/ellagance-sky/en_US) records its Gold Medal in 2006 and describes its naturally branching habit. PanAmerican Seed’s [2016 Ellagance catalog](https://www.panamseed.com/documents/catalogs/14520_PASKieft_2016Catalog-LowRes.pdf) lists plants 12–14 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, with first-year flowering and USDA hardiness zones 5–8. ## Flowers and form The light violet-blue flowers open from June into September or October, depending on conditions. The award profile notes single flowers and naturally basal branching. The 2016 catalog describes the Ellagance series as well branched, with dense flower spikes, strong stems, and grey-green foliage; Sky was specifically listed as the Gold Medal selection. It is suitable for bedding and for pots, containers, or tubs. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Lavender handles dry conditions once established, but containers need more frequent watering in summer because their limited soil volume dries quickly. Avoid cold, damp sites. Keep the crown and roots from sitting in wet soil, especially through winter. See the [Royal Horticultural Society’s lavender growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/lavender/growing-guide/) for broader cultivation advice. ## Maintenance After flowering, remove spent stems and lightly trim leafy growth to keep the plant compact. Do not cut into old woody stems, which may not regrow. Leave enough space and airflow around the plant, and remove damaged growth as needed.
