About Lavender 'Hidcote Blue'

Hidcote Blue is a compact English lavender with aromatic gray-green foliage and upright spikes of deep violet-purple flowers. It brings evergreen structure and summer color to sunny borders, gravel gardens, and containers with sharp drainage. ## Identity and appearance The RHS lists “Hidcote Blue” among the synonyms for *Lavandula angustifolia* ‘Hidcote’; the catalog selection name is retained here. Its silvery foliage and dark flowers make a strong contrast with pale stone, grasses, and silver-leaved companions. Lavender flowers also offer nectar and pollen for visiting bees. ## Growing conditions Give it full sun and well-drained soil. It tolerates dry conditions once established, while regular watering helps new plants settle in; avoid persistently wet soil. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round structure, though cold or wet winters can affect plants in exposed sites. The recorded mature size is approximate and varies with climate, soil, and pruning. ## Maintenance After flowering, trim spent stems and shape the leafy growth lightly. Avoid cutting back into old, leafless wood. In colder or wetter areas, excellent drainage and an open, sunny position help protect the crown.
