About Lavender 'Grosso'

Grosso is a vigorous lavandin with narrow gray-green foliage and long stems topped by fragrant, deep bluish-purple flowers in summer. The RHS describes an evergreen shrub that can reach about 3 feet tall; Ball Seed lists this selection at 18–22 inches tall by 18–24 inches wide, in USDA zones 5a–7b. ## Plant Character The upright plant forms a substantial flowering mound, and its long stems suit fresh bouquets and dried arrangements. The RHS notes that its flower heads are highly aromatic and that the hybrid blooms in summer. Ball Seed identifies it as a fragrant addition to a sunny garden and lists deer resistance. ## Growing Conditions Choose full sun and soil that drains freely. Chalk, loam, and sand are suitable; the RHS lists acidic, neutral, or alkaline soil when drainage is good. Give plants space for air movement and avoid sites that remain wet around the crown. ## Maintenance Water during establishment, then irrigate sparingly once the roots are settled. Deadhead after bloom and trim lightly in late summer, avoiding old woody stems.
