Create design onlineAbout Phenomenal™ Lavender Plant
Phenomenal® is a vigorous lavandin selected for a uniform, rounded mound of silvery foliage and fragrant, deep-purple summer flower spikes. It grows about 2–3 feet tall and wide, bringing a substantial, long-lived presence to sunny borders, mass plantings, or informal low hedges.
## Garden use
Developed and introduced by Peace Tree Farm, Phenomenal® was selected for dependable performance through winter cold, summer heat, and humidity. Its fragrant stems also suit fresh or dried arrangements. The [breeder’s Phenomenal® profile](https://www.peacetreefarm.com/plant-name/Lavandula-x-intermedia-Phenomenal) lists USDA zones 4–9, full sun, 2–3-foot dimensions, and resistance to common root and foliar diseases. The [RHS lavender guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/lavender/growing-guide) describes English lavenders and their hybrids as sun-loving plants that need free-draining soil.
## Growing conditions
Choose an open, sunny site with excellent drainage. Allow the soil to dry between waterings, especially during hot weather; wet soil combined with summer heat can cause failure. Water new plants as they establish, then avoid routine irrigation when the ground remains moist. The mature plant’s width makes it useful where a larger lavender mound is wanted; leave room for air movement and access for seasonal trimming.
## Maintenance
After flowering, remove spent stems and trim lightly to preserve the rounded outline. Keep cuts within leafy growth, since lavender may not resprout from bare woody stems. Avoid cutting into old wood, and use a light spring tidy only where growth is untidy or frost-damaged.
