New Madrid® Blue is a compact Spanish lavender in the New Madrid® series of Lavandula stoechas. It has blue flower heads topped by white bracts, evergreen blue-gray foliage and a fragrant, compact habit; reported garden size is about 12 to 24 inches tall and 18 to 22 inches wide. ## Garden use and growing
Use it along a sunny border, in a container or as a small-scale cut flower. Give the plant a warm, bright site and sharp drainage; the seller lists dry water needs and reports coastal tolerance. In regions with cold winters, check local hardiness before planting outdoors: GreenFuse lists Zone 7 for the series, while a retail plant profile lists Zone 8 for this selection.
## Flowers and foliage
The flower heads are violet-blue with showy white “ears” formed by bracts, and the blue-gray leaves remain through the year in mild climates. Spring and summer are the reported flowering seasons. The aromatic foliage and flowers suit paths and containers where their fragrance can be appreciated. ([Emerisa Gardens](https://emerisa.com/plant/lavnmb4-mr02/lavandula-stoechas-new-madrid-blue))
## Maintenance
Allow the soil to dry between waterings and avoid poorly drained beds. Trim spent flower stems after blooming to keep the mound tidy, and reduce the foliage lightly only when needed to shape the plant; avoid cutting far back into old woody growth.
