Leading Lady™ Orchid is a compact, clump-forming bee balm with orchid and light-pink bicolor flowers. Its fragrant blooms open in early summer, and its dark-green foliage is fragrant as well.
## Garden use
At 10–14 inches tall and 22–28 inches wide, this perennial fits the front of a flower border, a container, or a mass planting. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and the plant is listed as deer resistant. Its flowering stems can also be cut for arrangements.
## Growing conditions
Choose part sun to full sun. Keep the soil consistently moist; Proven Winners lists average or fertile soil and USDA hardiness zones 4a–8b. The plant prefers rich, moist soil but also grows in ordinary garden soil. Allow good air circulation to help prevent disease. See the [Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/monarda/leading-lady-orchid-bee-balm-monarda-hybrid) and [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP33132P3/en).
## Maintenance
The grower rates care as easy. Water during dry spells to maintain even moisture, especially while the plant establishes, and keep neighboring plants from crowding the clump.
