About Legend Of The Fall Bottlebrush

Legend Of The Fall® is a deciduous Fothergilla x intermedia selection valued for fragrant white flowers in spring and intense autumn color. Its 4–5 foot rounded form fits a mixed border or a small informal hedge, with green summer foliage that shifts through purple, red, orange, and yellow as the season cools. ## Seasonal Interest The shrub blooms on old wood in spring, when its flowers provide food for pollinators. The foliage display becomes most vivid where plants receive at least some sun, though this fothergilla tolerates shade. Proven Winners lists the selection for USDA zones 5–9 and gives a mature height and spread of about 4–5 feet. ## Siting Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. In hotter climates, afternoon shade can help, while a site with a few hours of sun supports stronger fall color. It works in borders, hedges, mass plantings, and as a specimen shrub. ## Cultivation Legend Of The Fall is a low-maintenance shrub and is described as deer resistant and heat tolerant. Fothergilla usually needs little pruning; if shaping is needed, prune after spring flowering. Remove root suckers if you want to keep the outline contained. See the [Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/fothergilla/legend-fall-bottlebrush-fothergilla-x-intermedia) and [ColorChoice growing guide](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/legend-of-the-fall-bottlebrush/) for selection-specific growing information. ## Maintenance Keep soil evenly moist during establishment, then water during extended dry periods and avoid prolonged drought. Check the base for suckers each year and remove those that grow beyond the intended space.
