About Let's Dance Diva! Reblooming Hydrangea

Let’s Dance Diva (‘SMHMLDD’) is a reblooming bigleaf hydrangea with upright, mounded growth, dark green leaves, and oversized lacecap flower heads. Its large pink or baby-blue outer florets surround red-purple fertile flowers, and soil pH can shift the color. It blooms on old and new wood, with [Spring Meadow Nursery](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/lets-dance-diva-35150) listing summer-to-fall bloom and USDA zones 5–9. ## Garden placement Use it near patios, in containers, at an edging, or grouped in a mixed border, where its unusually large lacecaps can be seen close up. Published mature-size listings vary: [Spring Meadow Nursery](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/lets-dance-diva-35150) gives 3–4 feet for height and spread, while the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/331069/hydrangea-macrophylla-smhmldd/details) lists 0.5–1 meter. Across those profiles, allow roughly 1.6–4 feet for height and spread and adjust spacing for local growing conditions. ## Growing conditions Part shade is a reliable starting point; the breeder also lists sun, provided moisture is adequate. Grow it in moist, well-drained soil and keep moisture even through dry weather. Check soil before changing pH, because pH and aluminum availability influence pink-to-blue bloom color. ## Selection and patent Spring Meadow identifies the selection as ‘SMHMLDD’ and cites U.S. Plant Patent PP25,105. The [patent publication](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP25105P2/en) is dated 25 November 2014; this records the publication date only. ## Maintenance This selection can flower on both old and new wood, so avoid hard annual cutbacks. Remove dead wood and leave healthy stems in place for flowering; mulch and water as needed while avoiding soggy soil. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-macrophylla/) recommends protecting old-wood buds and careful pruning timing for bigleaf hydrangeas.
