Create design onlineAbout Daisy (Leucanthemum)
Leucanthemum is a genus of daisy-flowered plants that includes both short-lived annuals and longer-lived perennials. Many garden forms carry white or pale yellow rays around a yellow centre, with upright flowering stems above leafy clumps.
## Choosing a form
The [RHS genus guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/leucanthemum) describes more than 30 species from Europe and temperate Asia, found in habitats ranging from rocky slopes to meadows. Perennial types include Shasta daisies and ox-eye daisies; flowering color, stature, and lifespan depend on the species or named selection, so use a cultivar-specific profile when planning spacing or height.
## Garden conditions
Most Leucanthemum grow in ordinary soil that drains freely and flower best in full sun, with light shade tolerated. Avoid permanently wet ground and excessively dry sites. Perennial forms suit mixed borders, meadow-style plantings, and cottage gardens; annual forms are useful for seasonal displays. The [RHS perennial guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/leucanthemum/perennial) recommends dividing established clumps every few years to maintain vigor.
## Maintenance
Deadhead spent flowers to extend a tidy display. Divide perennial clumps in spring when they become congested, and water during establishment or prolonged dry weather.
