About Leucanthemum 'Lemon Meringue'

‘Lemon Meringue’ is a low, compact Shasta daisy with lemon-yellow flowers that mature to clean white. Terra Nova lists a 6-inch foliage height and 14-inch spread; flowering stems reach about 14 inches, making it useful near the front of sunny beds. ## Plant Character Tight, heavy branching supports successive flowers from June through August. The mound fits front borders and mixed containers, and its semi-double flowers add a two-tone summer display. Terra Nova lists USDA Zones 5–9, full sun, and average garden soil and water. ## Growing Conditions Choose a sunny location with freely draining soil. Water regularly during establishment, then keep the soil from remaining saturated; established Shasta daisies tolerate some dry weather, but extended drought can reduce bloom. The flowers provide forage for bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects. Deer resistance is relative, so protect young growth if browsing pressure is high. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower stems to keep the plant neat and encourage further flowering. Divide clumps every few years if they become crowded. Monitor for aphids, leaf miners, leaf spot, and powdery mildew, and wear gloves if you are prone to skin irritation.
