About Leucanthemum 'Macaroon'

Leucanthemum × superbum ‘Macaroon’ is a compact, mounding Shasta daisy with double flowers that change from yellow buds to white petals with yellow centers. It flowers from June through August and suits containers, edging, and mass plantings in sunny beds. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun in average, well-drained garden soil. The Terra Nova profile lists this cultivar for USDA Zones 5–9, with a 14-inch vegetative height, a 20-inch spread, and flower stems reaching about 20 inches. The flowers open in stages, so the display shifts from yellow to bicolor and then mostly white as each bloom matures. Its winter dormancy is typical of this deciduous perennial. ## Garden Use Use Macaroon near the front of a mixed border or along an edge where its low mound can be seen. It also works in containers and mass plantings, and its stems can be cut for arrangements. Give neighboring plants room around the mound and avoid sites that stay waterlogged. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and when the soil dries for extended periods. Remove faded flower stems to keep the plant tidy, and cut back old growth when the plant is dormant.
