About Madonna Leucanthemum

Madonna is a compact, seed-raised Shasta daisy selected for an even, mounded habit and reliable first-year flowering. Its white blooms bring the familiar daisy form to smaller beds and containers, while its stature is much shorter than many traditional Shasta daisies. ## Garden use and appearance The breeder, [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/123300001007818/leucanthemum-madonna/), describes Madonna as an F1 hybrid with a compact habit and flowers in its first year. The plant reaches about 8–10 inches tall and 8–12 inches wide, with white daisy flowers; some petals may have a delicate lacy edge. The breeder lists summer, late-summer, and autumn flowering, full-sun exposure, and hardiness zones 3b–9a. Use this small selection near the front of a perennial border, in patio pots, or as a low cut-flower planting. Its compact dimensions and uniform growth suit repeated groupings where a neat, low outline is useful. ## Growing conditions Give Madonna a sunny position and fertile soil that drains freely. Keep young plants watered while roots establish; avoid ground that remains saturated. The Royal Horticultural Society recommends sun and moist but well-drained soil for perennial Leucanthemum, while North Carolina Extension notes that Shasta daisies perform poorly in winter-wet soil. Regional climate and drainage affect longevity and bloom. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stems to keep the mound tidy and support continued flowering. Divide established clumps every two to three years if they become congested or flower less freely.
