About Shasta Daisy 'Coconut'

‘Coconut’ is a compact Shasta daisy with fluffy, double white flowers above green foliage. Terra Nova lists a 20-inch height and spread, with flowering stems reaching about 26 inches, and notes that a strong crown can produce multiple flowers in its first year. ## Plant Character This mounding, winter-dormant perennial gives borders and mixed beds a bright summer display. The white flowers are useful for cutting, while the compact outline also fits containers and repeated mass plantings. Terra Nova lists June through August bloom and hardiness in USDA Zones 5–9. ## Growing Conditions Give it full sun and average, well-drained garden soil. Keep moisture reasonably even while new roots establish; once established, Shasta daisies can tolerate some dry spells, although prolonged drought may reduce flowering. Flowers attract pollinating insects, and deer often leave the plants alone but may browse when food is scarce. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower stems to keep the display tidy and encourage additional blooms. Divide crowded clumps every few years in spring or fall. Watch for aphids, leaf miners, leaf spot, and powdery mildew; the species can irritate skin and should not be eaten.
