About Blue Lyme Grass

Blue Lyme Grass ‘Blue Dune’ is a striking, blue-leaved perennial grass for sunny, open sites. Its steel-blue foliage and summer flower spikes add strong texture, while its vigorous rhizomes need room or containment. ## Growth and placement The Royal Horticultural Society describes this selection as a densely tufted grass with arching steel-blue leaves, reaching about 3.3–4.9 feet high and spreading more than 26 feet through long rhizomes. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil; its very wide, indefinite spread makes it unsuitable for small beds. The North Carolina Extension notes that the species can spread aggressively, and recommends containers where containment is important. Its narrow flower spikes emerge blue-green in early summer and mature to beige. ## Maintenance Cut back dead foliage in autumn. Monitor the rhizomes and divide the clump as needed to keep it within its allotted space.
