Liatris spicata, known as blazing star, is a tall, upright, clump-forming perennial that typically reaches heights of two to four feet. It features striking terminal spikes of fluffy, deep purple flower heads that bloom from the top down atop rigid, leafy stalks. The foliage consists of narrow, grass-like, medium green leaves forming a basal tuft. Ideal for pollinator gardens and borders, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, moist soil, though it is notably intolerant of wet winter conditions.
