About Othello Ragwort

Ligularia dentata ‘Othello’ is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial grown for its broad, rounded leaves and summer flowers. The large saw-edged leaves emerge flushed deep purple in spring, become dark green above, and keep dark red-purple undersides. In summer and early autumn, branched stems carry yellow-orange daisy-like flowers above the foliage; see the [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/90290/ligularia-dentata-othello/details) for its full description and care guidance. ## Growing Conditions Plant in reliably moist, deep soil in full sun with some midday shade, or in partial shade. A sheltered position helps protect the large leaves and flower stems from strong winds. Allow roughly 0.5–1 metre of height and spread. ## Maintenance Routine pruning is not required. Cut down withered stems in winter or early spring, once the foliage has died back. Divide established clumps in spring or after flowering if propagation is desired.
