About Easter Lily

Easter lily (*Lilium longiflorum*) is a bulbous perennial with large, fragrant white trumpet flowers. It is often forced in pots for spring holidays, while plants growing outdoors under ordinary garden conditions typically flower in autumn ([North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/lilium-longiflorum/)). ## Placement Give the stems full sun or partial shade and keep the roots cool with shade or mulch. Use rich, organic, well-drained soil that stays evenly moist; the species can grow in clay, loam, or sand if drainage is suitable. It works as a border accent or in a container. ## Seasonal Care Plant bulbs about 4–6 inches deep in fall or early spring, spacing them around a foot apart in groups. Water to maintain even moisture through active growth, and allow the foliage to yellow naturally after flowering. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers for a tidy display. Cut back the stems after the foliage yellows, and leave healthy leaves intact until then so the bulb can store energy for the next season.
