About Mount Duckling Asiatic Lily

Mount Duckling is an Asiatic hybrid lily first described for potted display. Its upright stems carry light red-purple flowers with slightly recurved petals, a few dark speckles and a light fragrance. ## Garden use and siting Grow Mount Duckling in a container or a well-drained garden bed. Asiatic lilies prefer sun or partial shade, with the bulb’s roots kept cool and the upper growth given light. The [RHS lily guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/lilies/how-to-grow-lilies) recommends moist but free-draining soil and cautions against heavy, waterlogged ground. The exact cultivar is classified as an Asiatic lily in the [RHS Mount Duckling profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/275342/lilium-mount-duckling-ia-b-b/details). ## Flowers The cultivar’s flowers face mostly upward and flatten with slightly reflexed tips as they open. The [patent description](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP16246P2/en) records a natural flowering season in June in the Netherlands; garden timing shifts with climate. Individual flowers last about 10–14 days on the plant, and the lightly scented flowers can be used for indoor display. ## Maintenance Plant bulbs promptly in moist, well-drained soil, setting them at a depth suited to the bulb size. Keep soil evenly moist while shoots and flowers develop, but avoid waterlogging. Remove faded flowers for a tidy appearance and leave the foliage until it yellows so the bulb can store energy for the next season. Divide offsets after the leaves die down. The [KAVB registration](https://assets.kavb.nl/docs/4d05a724-67b1-430c-b4a4-4f9ccbe34ae5.pdf) records Mount Duckling as the Asiatic Group cultivar LEL2238.
